MIDWEEK! – January 26

Sunday Morning Small Groups

Just to let you know what has been going on in our Sunday Morning Small Groups, we have been learning about other religions and the best way to tell others about Jesus who don't believe in Him. Last week we covered Judaism, and this week, the focus was on Islam. We talked about some of the basics of Islamic faith and looked at Mark 8:27-29 to focus on the importance of who Jesus really is. The students examined the Islamic faith's teaching that salvation is based on deeds and works and that there are certain things you have to do every day or you will lose that salvation.

We would like to encourage you to take time to talk with your kids about this week's lesson. We presented a lot of information, so your student may not remember all the details, but here are some questions that could help with your conversation:

-What if Jesus was not the Messiah and was just a good teacher or prophet? What impact would that have on your faith?
-Why do you think God would offer us salvation based on faith, not works? What would life be like if your deeds or actions earned you salvation, so you'd know how you were doing and if you were living up to God's expectations?
-What is the best way to pray for a friend or family member who is a Muslim, and why?

Thank you for taking time to talk about God's Word with your children and uplift them in their walk with Christ.

Just To Recap…

If you missed Midweek last night, you missed Peyton Eaton guest playing in the 3 Caballeros. You definitely missed playing Red Rover with Brittany. And most importantly, you missed Jeremy talking to us about Acts 4:29-31. He told us that not only do we have the right to speak, but we have an obligation to tell people about God and how much He loves us! Tell some one about Jesus today! Don't wait until it is too late.

Come to Midweek next Wednesday @7 in the ROC to see us mix it up again with Sam Roberson!

Finals are almost over! Good luck!

Hey Parents!

Find out what your students have been learning in Sunday School here every Monday. We will be discussing how we can relate to people with different religions than us, and how we can share our faith with them.

This week we started a new Sunday Morning Small Group series on other religions. The focus of this lesson was on Judaism. We looked at a portion of Peter’s sermon to a Jewish crowd, in Acts 2:36-39. Our teenagers learned that the Jews were God’s chosen people based on a covenant made with Abraham. God promised that through the Jews the Messiah would come to save them and the world. We saw how Jesus was the fulfillment of the Messianic prophecies, even though he wasn’t the kind of Messiah most Jews expected. Our students examined some of the basics of Judaism and its ties to Christianity. We helped them to understand that while Jews believe in God, they don’t believe in Jesus as the Messiah or the Son of God.

We encourage you take some time this week to talk with your student about our lesson on Judaism. Here are some questions you could include in your conversation:

  • In Acts 2, Peter told people in the crowd that they had to repent of their sins. Why does God want you to repent to be forgiven of your sins? What is the significance of repentance?
  • Peter also made sure to tell his Jewish audience that Jesus was the Messiah. Why was it hard for Jews to embrace Jesus as the Messiah?
  • What’s the best way to pray for a friend or family member who is Jewish, and why?
  • Take time to pray that your child will have a passion to see friends of all faiths come to know Christ.

New Year Bash – Change of Plans!!!!

The New Year Party has been changed tonight.  We are not meeting at First Presbyterian Church at 6pm….

Instead, come to the ROC from 6-7pm to play ultimate.  When it's cold outside, nothing will warm your heart like a great game o' frisbee.  Text a friend, put on your runnin' shoes, and come on out to FBC at 6pm.

READ THIS: If the weather gets too crazy and it would be irresponsible to travel this evening, we will post an update on AuthenticYouth.com and our Facebook page letting you know.  Otherwise….game on!
